Monogrammed Thank you and Mitered Edges Tutorial

Cps70_pti_do2_2 Last night when I made my card for CPS Sketch 70 (which I'll post on Thursday), Keri had asked how I mitered the edges of the lace stamp that I used. I thought that it would be a good idea to share with you--thanks for the nudge, Keri!

First I cut my base (Cosmo Cricket Little Girls Biography Collection) into a 4" square. (You can also use a standard rectangle, but you have to make sure that your mask is at a 45 degree angle still, not corner-to-corner as in a square format.) From the photo below, you can see that I laid my ruler from corner to corner, then simply placed a sticky note along its edge.  I did the same for both edges.

Second, I carefully placed my acrylic stamp on its mount; I wanted it to be straight so that I could use the edge of the block to judge positioning by. I inked my stamp with Versamark and lined up my scallops so that they were symmetrical, then stamped my antique lace image on one end. I moved both sticky notes and stamped the opposite end next.

Third, I used some vanilla embossing powder to heat emboss both ends. I then repositioned my sticky notes to cover the embossed ends, and stamped the blank ends.

This is what it looks like with all four sides embossed. If you get a few extra spots of embossing powder, you can usually scrape them gently off with a craft knife.

Finally, I used my Just Rite  Monogram stamper (the rectangular one) to stamp my initials in Versamagic Oasis Green chalk ink on a vintage cream base, then die cut this piece with a Spellbinders Plain Petite Oval die. Mat layers are cut from Stampin' Up's Real Red cardstock. I added red eyelets and ran a silk ribbon through them, tying a bow on the right. The button is an Autumn Leaves Foo-Fa-La button.

Several of you have requested a tutorial on tying a bow. Check out this one by Melissa Phillips for CPS; she did a fabulous job! [I am having trouble directly linking; it's on the page that I linked to, then scroll down to Monday, March 10.] I can honestly say that I have no trick to tying a bow. My bows do not usually start out nice; I fiddle and twist and fiddle some more until they finally lay right--sometimes a five-minute process. That's my main advice: just keep working with it until it does what you want!

Debbie i always love your cards and tutorials. I have a ? How do you get your spellbinder dies to cut so precisely? My top and bottom plates slide askew when i feed them in to the Wizard. I know you tape the die but the paper still moves when the plates shift. Help!
