Bubs the Beaver Meets Mr. Campy

Cl_cc_do1 I recently received some Our Craft Lounge stamps in the mail, including Bubs the Beaver. Not only is he the cutest beaver that you ever saw, but I also had the perfect papers to pair with him, Cosmo Cricket's Mr. Campy line. I have to confess that this card took a while--mostly due to machine [user] error.

I had stamped and colored Bubs with my Copic markers just the way I wanted him, and then tried to zig-zag stitch up the left side. The sewing machine messed up and left tons of ugly thread--ugh!  If I'd been wise, I would simply have colored another image. But stubbornness trumped wisdom: I tried covering an edge and sewing again. Mess-up two.  There wasn't enough margin on the left side to attempt a third cover-up.

Cl_cc_do1dtl Finally I resorted to cutting him out, airbrushing a background, and paper piecing the grass from some of my Mr. Campy scraps. Does anyone else do this--get so determined to rescue a card that you spend an inordinate amount of time effecting the rescue? (There's got to be an insurance code for this "condition"!)

In the end, however, I loved him; that makes it worth the time, I think. . .  Thanks for visiting!

Copic Coloring Hint:
For texture on the tree, I first colored the tree bark with the E41, E42, E43, and E44 markers, and then went back in after it was dry with my clear blender (o) and removed stripes of color here and there for some striated bark texture.

1.

Great tip on the texture!

That is one cute beaver! And yes I try to salvage this all of the time, and I know when I'm doing it that I could do it faster if I would just start over.

2.

Oh, this little guy is so cute Debbie!!! As usual I love how you colored the image with your Copics. Such a sweet card!!

3.

Your card is amazing, the beaver & Mr. Campy are a perfect match!!

4.

This is just adorable!!! Love that cute beaver stamp!

5.

I love how it looks like the beaver has taken "bites" out of the side of the paper back ground. How original is that one!!! great job.

6.

Adorable card! Yes I do it all the time!

7.

Oh my GOODNESS! Not only is it cute, but its just fabulous! It should be sold somewhere!!!! Glad you got those stamps, so I can check them out! :)

8.

Fabulous card; love it!

And yes, there should be insurance for this type condition - LOL

9.

I have tried to rescue doomed cards too. Often I like them better than my first idea! If your sewing machine continues to give you a hard time, let me know. I teach sewing IRL! The colouring on this image is fabulous. I can't wait til the colic class scheduled for march in Toronto.

10.

An absolutely adorable card!! It was definitely worth all the effort put into the 'rescue'!

11.

He turned out great! Sometimes, a boo-boo, is a gift! I love him cut out and mounted on dimensionals!

12.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read this Debbie and it's so funny the way you put "user" in such a small font, my old eyes could barely read it . . . LOL! Confession . . . whenever you see an insect on one of my cards, it's usually there for a reason . . .huh um . . . usually to cover a spot, maybe from a . . . huh um . . . dropped brush. This card is fabulous and well worth the save . . . I Love it!

13.

This is absolutely adorable! What a sweet image! I love how you cut the image out and mounted it up. Love the colors and papers and the punch you used. Cute embellie/ribbon treatment too! Great job!

14.

this is a super cute card

15.

It was worth the trouble - he is absolutely adorable!

16.

So Cute!
Yes, I do it all the time....
Just because I like to use everything I have wisely, and I hate making mistakes and I will spend hour{s} fixing something I ruined.
Glad I'm not the only one...

17.

Actually, I think it turned out maybe better than the original because I love the effect of Bubs being cut out and placed over the background image. If I understand you correctly, that's not how it started out? But I'd say it was worth the hassle, because this card is darn cute!!!

18.

This is so cute! It's not your usual style; your cards are usually so classy and elegantly pretty and it's fun to see your "cute" come out now and then!

19.

Fabulous card! I probably would have overlooked this set if I had seen it while shopping. What an inspiration your creations are. Thanks for sharing.

20.

This is absolutely adorable! That paper is so perfect for that image, and you did a fantistic job with the Copics. And you are not alone in your quest in trying to rescue a card element... sick, isn't it?!

21.

Darling!! super super cute!

22.

I'm waiving my hand... I do that too! LOL! I just can't bring myself to throw something away.
Debbie, this is truly one of the cutest Bubs cards I've seen!

23.

It's so comforting to know that even the great Debbie Olson makes mistakes...who knew??? ;-) Fantastic card, as always! Thanks for sharing that you are, in fact, human like the rest of us!

24.

Totally worth it! I mean, you spent all this time creating, right, and in the end have a fantastic card - TFS!

25.

this card is so cute. Great job!
