Tonight I have a card to share, but even more importantly, I have a very special request. Have you seen the Christmas in July post on the Cosmo Cricket blog? Cosmo Cricket is giving $1 per comment posted, up to $1000, to a local food bank. I would love to see 1000 signatures on that post; how about yours? If you wait, you may be too late. I think Julie has already left that post up longer than she had intended!
For this card I chose PaperTrey Ink's Tea for Two set, one of my favorites from back in April, and some Cosmo Cricket Early Bird papers (Cherry Pie and Farmers Market). The teapot is paper-pieced using the little miniature version on the cover sheet of the Early Bird Collection; I love using the cover sheets for small things like this. Because I wanted to simple shadows to help with the illusion of dimensionality, I chose a Copic T1 marker to add shadows, softening the edges with a o clear blender marker.
The background behind the teapot is cut and embossed with a Spellbinders Labels 4 die template, and then airbrushed while still in the die with Copic BG13 and T1 markers. I cut the same shape for the sentiment on the inside of the card since I was making a z-fold card. Buttons are PaperTrey Ink Lemon Zest Vintage Buttons, and ribbon is 1-1/2" wide ivory silk from Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply Store. Inside sentiments are stamped in PaperTrey's Aqua Mist and Pure Poppy Inks.
If you haven't signed that Cosmo Cricket Christmas in July post yet, would you consider doing so? Thanks so much for visiting!

Gorgeous card, Debbie!! I love your Z-fold card. The buttons and bows really look so nice with your paper, and the teapot is perfect with the sentiment. I also use those little pieces of sample DP paper on the covers of designer paper, too. They're just too pretty to toss and so perfect for a lot of things.

Hi, Debbie! I read your blog faithfully and am constantly amazed at your talent and creativity.
I have a question for you - and if you don't get a chance to answer, it's okay. How do you get such clear impressions from your acrylic stamps? Do you do something special before stamping? Is it the stamps? Is it the inks? Any feedback you could provide would be excellent and much appreciated.
Posted by: Mary Lasse | July 12, 2009 at 05:21 PM
Simply beautiful. I love that cherry paper. I looked and looked at the teapot cause I know my paper is much larger. Than I read that you used the cover sheet. What a fantastic idea. I donated to a local church food pantry as soon as Julie put the post up. Nice of you to spread the word.

In response to question number 29:
Mary, this is one of the best questions that I've gotten in a long time! I usually use a white rubber eraser to scuff my more solid acrylic stamps well. It leaves them looking dull on the stamping parts, but they seem to hold ink better after that. (I saw Mercy Kerin show this on her blog not long ago if you need a step-by-stop--her blog name is Lord Have Mercy, and it was within the last week or so.)
Also, I have to say that my absolute favorite inks to use with acrylics are Versamagic chalk inks. I don't work for Tsukineko, but I might as well, for as much as I like them! To be fair, the Palette inks, while the stamp with a splotchy look, almost always dry evenly given a few minutes. But the Versamagic inks look solid right away.
Hope this helps!

This is such a beautiful card - I love your style! I'm curious as to what the dimensions are on this card -I'd love to make something using this fold for an upcoming card I'm working on! I really appreciate your clear pictures and descriptions!
Posted by: Donelle Underwood | July 14, 2009 at 11:17 AM
Thank you, Donelle! It's a normal A-2 sized card--5-1/2" x 4-1/4" folded. You start with a 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" base, and score at both 2-1/8" and 4-1/4", then Z-fold. Hope this helps!
