I am delighted to begin the Spellbinders CHA Blog Frenzy today by showcasing the new S5-019 Labels 8 Die Templates.
This is a gift set of four note cards, measuring approximately 2-3/4” x 4” folded, complete with coordinating envelopes and a clutch purse container.
I began with a 4.5” x 6.5” pad of patterned and flocked cardstock. I have a tendency to purchase these little pads on sale and then forget to use them! This one was a perfect size for my gift set, however. The largest die template in the Labels 8 set is a whopping 5-7/16” x 3-15/16” (almost 5-1/2” x 4”). With the largest die template, I cut the four note cards, scoring them in half and folding.
To make coordinating envelopes, I first squared up my patterned paper, removing as little paper as possible on two sides to get the paper square. I then scored the paper at 1” and at 4” on the almost 6-1/2” side. On the 1” by almost 4” panel, I used a corner rounder on the top corners (shown on the left above). This became my top flap.
To create closed envelope sides, I simply sewed a narrow zig-zag stitch on the very edge of my envelopes, creating something akin to a serger look. (You could use a liquid glue, but you would have to apply it in a very thin strip to leave yourself enough room for the card. I chose to sew, thinking that it would leave me the most card room.)
Shown above are the four unembellished note card bases and the purse sides and body. For the purse, I again used the largest S5-019 Labels 8 Die Template and cut two matching pieces of flocked cardstock. Next I cut in half a clear stationery box. (Mine came from PaperTrey Ink.) The half box forms the inside of the purse, and the flocked die cuts form the outside of the purse.
I used some super sticky tape, two strips along the top and bottom of both front and back, to attach the purse front and back to the clear purse body. For the clutch fastener, I used one of the smaller S5-019 Labels 8 Die Template sizes, scored three times in the middle, wrapped with black grosgrain ribbon, and adorned with a large black button. For the actual closing mechanism, I used a Basic Grey Magnetic Snap (the little white circle above on the inside of the clutch fastener).
This is what the clutch fastener looks like from the outside before being attached to the purse.
For the little “enjoy” label, I used the smallest of the S5-019 Labels 8 Die Templates, along with an S4-190 Labels 4 die template. Sentiment is from PaperTrey Ink’s Vintage Picnic Sentiments set, stamped in True Black PTI ink and sponged with Vintage Photo Distress ink.
This is a finished view of the note card purse, with all four note cards and envelopes inserted. You might be able to fit six if you did not embellish them at all. I used ribbon, a button, and sentiments from PaperTrey Ink’s 2008 anniversary set cut with an S3-149 Double Ended Tags die template to embellish my little note cards (shown at the top of this section).
Next, I would like to share a card that I created with an S5-019 Labels 8 Die Template for the base, bottom mat, and second mat layers. I also use an S4-190 Labels 4 die template die template and an S4-110 Classic Ovals Large die template. The sentiment is from Verve Stamps, stamped in PTI’s Hibiscus Burst ink and airbrushed with a Copic YR35 marker. Yellow ribbon is PTI’s Lemon Tart grosgrain, and the pink silk ribbon flower is made by folding in half and hand-gathering a length of Sharon Johnson’s 1-1/4” silk ribbon. Papers are some lovely new Melissa Frances papers from Emma’s Paperie.
For contest purposes, the name of the die being revealed here today is an S5-019 Labels 8 Die Template, as shown below. Please review the rules below before entering the drawing, and then click on the link provided below.
The largest die template in the set cuts at 5-7/16” x 3-15/16”, and the smallest at 1-1/2” x 1-1/8”. MSRP for the S5-019 Labels 8 Die Template is $24.99.
