Today I have another sketch card combined with a stepped out coloring tutorial for you. For Mercy's MTSC69 sketch, I chose some K&Company Madeline papers and a couple of JustRite sets, Breath of Spring Borders and Centers and Romantic Sentiments Centers, along with their corresponding wooden blocks, the large oval and the 1-5/8" round.
As you can see, I followed the sketch closely, except for scalloping the square bottom layer. Dies that I used were all Spellbinders: a plain standard oval and standard scallop, and a Big Scalloped Borderabilities Petite.
Now for my favorite part, the coloring! You can click on any picture that you want to see larger.
In the first picture, I've colored the violets. Keep in mind that any time one petal folds behind another, you have a good excuse to create a shadow, adding interest. I've used Copic V01, V05, and a touch of V09.
In the second picture I colored the greenery with G21, G24, and G28.
In picture three I've added a warm yellow glow (Copic YR31 mixed with Colorless Blender fluid in an empty marker). I chose yellow since yellow and violet are complementary. The yellow makes the violet more vibrant.
Finally, I colored the bow. This is a simple image to color and a good one to practice on.
Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to see what Mercy's team has done with this sketch: Pam Speidel, Cindy Haffner, Pam Varnell, Julie Lacey, Crystal Birr, Jackie Pedro, and Jessica Diedrich. If you have a chance to pay along, you can leave a link here on Mercy's blog.
