This week's CPS 166 sponsor was JustRite Stampers. I was in a vintage mood and chose a newer set to work with, the Appliqué Border set, thinking that the squares of the set would fit well with Sketch 166.
I stamped the image and border twice on cream cardstock in Memento black ink and colored the inside with Copic markers (Y21, YG11, and W1) For the border I used two Spellbinders Nestability dies, a plain square and a scalloped square, leaving the dies in place while I airbrushed some Copic Y23 on the border.
On the ring inside the image I glued down tiny rhinestones. I used Ranger Matte Accents so that any over-glued area wouldn't show, and a pair of needle-nosed tweezers to place the rhinestones, very carefully. I paired the Applique focal point with a Cosmo Cricket Everafter paper, Something Old. Ribbon is May Arts ivory silk--some of my favorite to tie.
Would you like to play along with this week's CPS166 challenge? We would love to have you!
This week's CPS163 sponsor is My Favorite Things Stamps. I chose the Boy and Dog Tree Swing set from the Pure Innocence Line--he was irresistible!
Because I was starting with a tree-related focal image, I chose papers from Cosmo Cricket's Earth Love and Nutmeg Mini Decks, matted in Papertrey Ink's Dark Chocolate cardstock. The Copic markers that I colored him with are shown below. (You can click on images to see them larger.)
I added a bit of texture to the overalls using a woven cloth wet with Copic Colorless Blender fluid. Twill is PTI Dark Chocolate, and the mini pin is a Tim Holtz accessory.
The winner of the empty 24-piece Copic wallet is #108, Diane Anthony. Congrats, Diane; I've e-mailed you--send me your address, and I'll get it to Marianne at Copic. Thanks for playing, everyone!

I found some happy flowers in my stash this week and wanted to try them with Tami's CPS 163 sketch. Aren't these sweet? They are by Hero Arts, from the Printed Flowers set, and the tag is from Papertrey Ink's Mixed Messages.
Of course, happy flowers need happy paper, so I chose some Garden Variety Mini Deck papers by Cosmo Cricket. (The envelope is made from a 12" x 12" sheet of Garden Variety.) I used just five Copic markers--the three yellow ones shown below on the flowers, as well one that I forgot to include, my special YR31/0 mixtures (a really pale, muted yellow). The BG marker was for airbrushing the clouds. (Yes, happy flowers needed clouds too.)
The red woodgrain flower was a solid flower stamp; I used a Copic 0.3 Black Multiliner to outline the Pure Poppy ink after I'd stamped it to make it fit better with the other two flowers. Buttons are Cosmo Cricket's Garden Variety buttons. The tag is cut using a Spellbinders Double Ended tags die, trimming the tag down to length and rounding the cut corners with scissors.
Do you have time to play along with this week's CPS Sketch? We would love to have you! Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you made it through April 1 without too many April Fools jokes being played upon you! Thankfully, my son didn't remember that it was April 1 until the late afternoon--that made my day easier. ;-)
For this week's CPS 160 card, I have a smaller format card, 3-1/2" x 5". It was a simple layout, so I wanted to pick a small focal image. I chose a center from JustRite's Stitched with Love Borders and Centers set, stamping it in Memento Tuxedo black ink and coloring it with the Copic markers shown below, as well as the Clear, Buttermilk, and Mint Spica Glitter pens. The envelope is a Papertrey Ink Vintage Cream A-1 envelope stamped with a second image from the Stitched with Love Borders and Centers set.
I had the perfect papers to accent it from my Cosmo Cricket Material Girl Mini Deck. Of course, with sewing-themed stamps and sewing-themed paper, you didn't think that I could avoid sewing on this card, did you? Enter a bit of zig-zag stitching.
Ribbon is some 1/4" white silk ribbon, dyed with a YR18 Copic Various Inks Refill. Trust me on this one: it will not take as long to walk upstairs and get a ziploc bag to dye this in, as it will to get the resulting ink stain off of your hand if you chose not to go find a ziploc bag. And don't ask me how I know. . .
The small tag is from Papertrey Ink's Mixed Messages stamp set. If I had a nickel for every time I've used Mixed Messages and Mega Mixed Messages, well, you get the picture. That's it, a little birthday card for the seamstress on your list. Thanks for visiting!
I got so busy this week that I almost forgot to post my CPS 159 card! For this encouragement card, I chose PaperTrey Ink's Scattered Showers and Scattered Showers Additions stamps sets, pairing them with some paper from Cosmo Cricket's Garden Variety line, Strawberry Fields and Bloomers.
I combined a bit of stamping with a bit of paper-piecing for a fairly simple card that's sure to cheer up a gloomy day. Grosgrain ribbon is Papertrey's Aqua Mist. Boots are stamped in Pure Poppy, and rain and clouds in Aqua Mist (the new formula). I used a Copic YR31 to color that little handle part on the boot.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful weekend!
This week's CPS 158 sketch had me heading in a simple direction. Since the sketch had a strip across the bottom ending in a tag shape, I knew that I wanted to use a sentiment for my tag. After I had chosen my sentiment from Papertrey's Vintage Picnic Sentiments set, I wanted some comforting, home-y paper to serve as my background.
I chose a sheet from the Cosmo Cricket Material Girl Mini Deck, pairing it with Papertrey Ink Terra Cotta Tile and Vintage Cream cardstock. My tag is a Spellbinders Ribbon Tags Trio die cut, trimmed and sewn to the cardstock on one end. Buttons are Papertrey's Vintage Buttons in Melon Berry, New Leaf, and Terra Cotta Tile, and grosgrain ribbon is also Terra Cotta Tile.
Have you played along with this week's CPS Sketch yet? If you haven't, this is a simple one to start on!
How about a second CPS 157 card today? For this anniversary card, I chose the JustRite Stampers 1-5/8" Romantic Sentiments set, along with a 2" Round Decorative Border Frame. For the hearts, I used PaperTrey Ink's Heart Prints set, and buttons are PTI Vintage Buttons in Pure Poppy, Sweet Blush, and Melon Berry. The little rhinestones are some Hero Arts rhinestones.
Card size is 4-1/4" square, so even with the hearts extending from either side, it would still fit into a regular A2-sized envelope. How about that paper? It's digital paper--digital files printed out on matte paper at high resolution using an inexpensive Canon inkjet printer. The paper collection is from Jen Wilson Designs, Sweet Love collection, (found here), and I printed it at 50% to make the pattern smaller.
That's it for my CPS cards this week. Have you played along? We'd love to have you!
P.S. Thank you so much for the camera suggestions! I've narrowed it down to a Canon or a Nikon, but I'm stuck at that point. I'll let you know what I decide though, and let's hope I can get okay shots with my little point and shoot Cybershot until I can decide. (I'd love a Nikon D5000 or a Canon EOS Rebel T1i, but it's still up in the air.)
This week's CPS157 sponsor is JustRite Stampers. While I was working on my CPS card for this week, I couldn't decide which set I wanted to use. So this is the extra card; I'll share my "official" one later this week.
For this card I used the 1-5/8" Seeds of Kindness Borders and Centers set, stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with Vanilla embossing powder onto PaperTrey's Pure Poppy cardstock. (I left the border off because I wanted the sentiment to be small enough in scale to be believable as a flower center.) Flowers are die-cut with a Spellbinders nested flower die, and sentiment is cut with a Plain Classic Circle die.
Papers are Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety, mostly from the Mini Deck, with the strip of green paper being from the 12" x 12" sheets. For the grass and stems, I affixed a piece of Scotch foam tape to the back of the green patterned paper, then used my Carl Cutter to trim thin strips. They are totally backed with foam tape to keep them raised above the level of the rest of the green paper. The little starburst shape in the center of the two side flowers is an older Stampin' Up punch; I'm not sure if it's retired now or available still.
This week's CPS 157 sketch was fun and simple--I hope you get a chance to play along.
P.S. The JustRite 1-5/8" sets are ALL on sale this week for 20% off--just thought I'd do a bit of enabling. ;-}
I almost forgot to share my CPS 155 card this week! The CPS155 sketch was simple and elegant, so I paired it with a lovely hydrangea branch from the JustRite Stampers Plant a Little Love set and some Basic Grey Wisteria papers. For the sentiment, I used PaperTrey's Vintage Picnic Sentiments set, heat embossed with detail white embossing powder.
Copic marker colors that I used were: V12, V15, V17, YG11, YG63, YG67, E44, E47, 0, and BG10 in the background. I also used touches of Spica Glitter pens in clear and mint. Buttons are PTI Plum Pudding Vintage buttons. I used a Spellbinders Classic Plain Circle Nestability to trim my base focal image and then outlined it with a gold paint pen.
How about playing with this CPS sketch with us? There's still time!
On the inside, I used the Inside and Out Baby set, combined with more Garden Variety papers. The ribbon is some May arts pink silk ribbon, tweaked with some Copic YR0000 various inks. (It needed a warmer cast to work well with the rest of the card.) The safety pin is a Tim Holtz mini pin.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I currently work as a freelance designer in some capacity for the following companies: Imagination International, Inc. (Copic Markers), JustRite Papercraft, Lockhart Stamp Company, Papertrey Ink, Perfect Layers, and Spellbinders Paper Arts. While I am compensated by these companies, either monetarily or in product, I maintain the freedom as an independent designer to say what I truly think of their products. I will never recommend something that I don't personally use and enjoy.
