Dude!

CL_EPKona_Spb_Cp_DO2a Tonight I wanted to share another of the EP Hangin' Loose with Kona images--these are just so much fun to color!  I used pretty much the same Copic marker colors that I had used in my stepped-out piece here, with the addition of some B41 and B45 for his swim trunks, and some Y21 around the perimeter of the image as a backlight. I used one of the Black Spica glitter pens to make Kona's sunglasses reflective, and the new Buttermilk (pale yellow) Spica to add shimmer to the blooms on his swim trunks.

CL_EPKona_Spb_Cp_DO2b After coloring him, I die cut and embossed him with a Spellbinders Classic Nestability Circle die. The tag is also a Spellbinders die-cut, a double ended tag with one end cut off to make it the right length.

Papers are Cosmo Cricket Snorkel papers, School's Out and Beach Towel--I love these summery papers! The Kona set is such a sweet set for little boy birthdays.

Thank you for visiting!

Happy Birthday, Joy!

CL_Kona_DO1a Joy Kennedy of Eclectic Paperie fame has a birthday today! Cami says that Joy loves little Kona, one of Marianne's creations in a new Our Craft Lounge  set to be released Friday, Hangin' Loose with Kona. So in honor of Joy's birthday, here's Kona, riding the Big Wave.

I took a few pictures as I colored Kona with my Copic markers. I'll not babble since the colors are shown right in each picture.  Papers are Cosmo Cricket Snorkel  papers, School's Out and Umbrellas. Twill is also Cosmo Cricket, while buttons are a combination of PaperTrey ink and Buttons Galore. Process Copic coloring pictures are all below. Click on any picture to see it larger.

Happy Birthday, Joy!

Belated Beaver Birthday

CL_CC_CP_DO2 Edited to add: I left this on autopost last night, and somehow the words and pictures reformatted when it posted. Sorry for the confusion; it should look right to everyone now. Thanks!

How about a beaver card tonight?  I chose one of the Our Craft Lounge Bubs the Beaver images and paired him with my Copic markers and Cosmo Cricket Mr. Campy papers and printed twill. I used a Stampin' Up notebook edge punch and Carl and Marvy corner rounders.

The Copic markers that I chose are all pictured below in the step-by-step pictures, just in case any of you would find the coloring helpful.  Click on the pictures to enlarge and read the marker labels.

Have a wonderful day!

In this step I colored the wood pile; I missed a branch, but I colored it later.

In this step I put my basic beaver colors on, but you will see that I blended them a bit by the next step. Also, I chose reddish-browns for the beaver as opposed to the more neutral browns for the wood pile, just to distinguish them visually.

Shadows establish a base for the beaver and wood so that they appear to be sitting on solid ground rather than levitating.

The unlabeled center marker is an empty marker case filled with half blender fluid and half YR31 ink for a simple way to blend the pale yellow into the white of the cardstock.

Card detail: the inside has a belated birthday sentiment. Button is a PaperTrey Ink item (out of stock at the moment), and twill is Mr. Campy. I softened the yellow a bit more after the last step-by-step photo.

Bubs the Beaver Meets Mr. Campy

Cl_cc_do1 I recently received some Our Craft Lounge stamps in the mail, including Bubs the Beaver. Not only is he the cutest beaver that you ever saw, but I also had the perfect papers to pair with him, Cosmo Cricket's Mr. Campy line. I have to confess that this card took a while--mostly due to machine [user] error.

I had stamped and colored Bubs with my Copic markers just the way I wanted him, and then tried to zig-zag stitch up the left side. The sewing machine messed up and left tons of ugly thread--ugh!  If I'd been wise, I would simply have colored another image. But stubbornness trumped wisdom: I tried covering an edge and sewing again. Mess-up two.  There wasn't enough margin on the left side to attempt a third cover-up.

Cl_cc_do1dtl Finally I resorted to cutting him out, airbrushing a background, and paper piecing the grass from some of my Mr. Campy scraps. Does anyone else do this--get so determined to rescue a card that you spend an inordinate amount of time effecting the rescue? (There's got to be an insurance code for this "condition"!)

In the end, however, I loved him; that makes it worth the time, I think. . .  Thanks for visiting!

Copic Coloring Hint:
For texture on the tree, I first colored the tree bark with the E41, E42, E43, and E44 markers, and then went back in after it was dry with my clear blender (o) and removed stripes of color here and there for some striated bark texture.
