Do you ever feel like you fall into layout ruts so that all of your cards look the same? I'm noticing that lately about many of my cards. Time to shake things up a bit! I started with a long card--6-1/2" x 3-1/4", then I tried a Lockhart stamp that I would typically use to embellish a larger image rather than as a stand alone image. But I'm trying something new tonight, right?
While I'm trying new things, I thought I'd pull out my SU rhinestone brads that I haven't been using. Why? Well, I like the square ones best, but the colors that I need are usually in the round ones. Also, both square and round have silver-toned settings, and I use gold or antique copper more than I use silver. No problem! I just used one of my gold-toned Copic markers and warmed up that silver tone a bit! I had a little trouble getting the brads through two layers of ribbon and a layer of card stock without making the ribbon pucker just a bit, but I can live with that.
I stamped and colored the rose millinery image three times on Neenah Classic Cream card stock (a little darker than Very Vanilla), then used one of my Spellbinders Nestabilty Classic Rectangles to cut and emboss the images. To color them, I used the following Copic markers: 0, R14, R27, YG03, and YG95. I also used the Atyou Spica glitter pens to draw over the stems and tendrils (melon) as well as the little dots (gold). I aged the edges with a light sponging of Tim Holtz Old Paper Distress ink, which seems to be my favorite distressing color lately. It's similar to SU's River Rock--try that for a nice variation on using brown all of the time! Green mat layer is Bazzill Ivy; I needed a few sheets of it and had to order a whole package. Can you guess what color I'm using a lot of between now and Christmas?

Now, here's where it gets odd: I made this card late Saturday night, but decided that I'd go to bed instead of posting then. Tonight while I was posting , it occurred to me to surf over to Card Positioning Systems to check out their new layout ideas since I'm feeling the layout rut. Would you believe that their Sunday layout is almost identical to this? [Imagine strains of the Twilight Zone music playing here.] Hmmmm. . . I'm definitely heading over there again!
