I had told you that I would get a template made for the cocoa packet card box; this is a two-page PDF document, the first page containing instructions in case you want to print one on cardstock and simply trace around a master, and the second page with lighter lines and no words that show once it's trimmed, in case you'd rather print directly on the cardstock or patterned paper that you are using. Please feel free to use it and share it for personal projects, but I would ask that no one submit to publications with it. Thank you! Download DOlson_CocoaPackTempl.pdf
For this card I started with some Cosmo Cricket Be Good paper (Peppermint and Favorite Things) and PaperTrey Ink's new Holiday Tags set. I used Spellbinders Plain Circle and Plain Oval Nestabilities to cut my focal image and its mat, then made a little scalloped edge with a Fiskars Threading Water Punch**. The tag is also a Spellbinders die from the Tag Trio set. (**Note: I do not see the same Fiskars punch that I used, but there are some similar ones in the BORDER Punches category.)
I printed my template on the vine side (the back, in the picture below) of the patterned paper, then trimmed and scored as shown, cutting my window with a Coluzzle template. (Click on any picture that you'd like to see larger.)
Next I folded the box part in toward the center and used some red-line tape to attach the side flap of the box to the gutter of the card. Since all I could get for that edge on an 11" sheet of paper was 1/4", you'll have to make sure that the folds both align. It's easier to align them if you shut the box flaps on top and bottom to help you hold the center line in place. It should look like the picture below when you tape the box side to the right side of the card.
Finally, you are ready to decorate and add your gourmet cocoa pack (or whatever other tall, narrow thing that you'd like to box in a card). I hate to spend twenty minutes fiddling with a bow, then have to untie it to get into the box. For one thing, after the tails have been trimmed, chances of its ever being pretty when retied are slim! For that reason, I simply tied my stamped, matted focal image on; it can be slipped off the top or bottom when the recipient opens the card.
