Today I’m privileged to help introduce a fabulous new PaperTrey Ink set, Fall Elegance, created by new PTI designer Tiffany Pastor. The first stand-out in this set to me was, of course, the swirly pumpkins and leaves; but the more I played with the set, I also loved the patterned backgrounds that it afforded.
I stamped the taller pumpkin first and then masked it to stamp the shorter pumpkin and the swirls as greenery. Next, I stamped the shorter pumpkin a second time on a scrap and trimmed it closely before attaching it with foam tape. (I had stamped it underneath because I wanted to be able to stamp its stem on the base layer and avoid having to trim around the tendrils at the top of the stem.)
For my second card, I started by stamping several colored backgrounds—Plum Pudding, Enchanted Evening, Summer Sunrise, and Ripe Avocado. I used the same ink color as paper color on all but the Summer Sunrise layer, and on it I used some Orange Zest ink. For the swirls on the Enchanted Evening layer, I used Versamark Champagne Dazzle ink, and for the swirls on the Plum Pudding layer, I used Lavender Moon ink. To align the words on the Summer Sunrise layer, I used a gridded block and spaced the lines 1/2” from baseline to baseline.
See how many fabulous background elements the Fall Elegance set contains? Next it was just a matter of finding a pleasing arrangement and proportion of each color of stamped paper. I wasn’t feeling quite as brave when I put the card together, so the Enchanted Evening layer didn’t make it in. (I saved it for later though.) I knew that the Plum Pudding and Ripe Olive layers were a safe combination but that one should predominate. The Summer Sunrise was a bit riskier, but could be used in moderation as a complementary color to Plum Pudding.
I used a Spellbinders Fancy Scalloped Pierceability die to trim the lower edge, added Ripe Olive Vintage Buttons, and covered most of the Summer Sunrise layer with ribbon and a tag. Adding some Chamomile Vintage Ink to all exposed edges to tone them down a bit helped to tie the strong colors together as well.
Finally, I added some stitching—just can’t help myself!—and matted my card front with Kraft cardstock before attaching it to a Vintage Cream base. Can you start to see the possibilities of the Fall Elegance set?
