As I was coloring the car image from Papertrey Ink's Enjoy the Ride set a couple of days ago, I had a brainstorm about putting a metallic type of reflection in the windshield. I had to get it out of my system, so I thought I would share that here for you today just in case you might have a use for it. It's a bit overkill, granted, and it reminds me more of chrome than a plain glass, but, hey, it was fun!
This isn't a finished card yet; I still need to add a license plate and probably some background, but I hope that it will be helpful anyway.
I'll start with the reflection in the window, but I'll color the car too. I used a T6 Copic marker to draw a straight line in the lower third of the car windshield. (Use a straightedge.)
Next, I used BG15, BG13, and BG10 markers to add some sky. I started with a line of BG15 at the top and worked my way down with the lighter shades, using a 0 Colorless Blender at the bottom of the BG10 to soften the pale aqua into the white of the paper. I did not disturb my dark gray line because I wanted a clean break there.
Next I started right on the dark gray line with YR18, moving down to Y38, and finally to Y35, with a bit of colorless blender softening the yellow at the base of the windshield. The colors seemed too intense at this point, so I muted them a bit later. I used warm grays to mute the blue and cool grays to mute the yellow-oranges. That is opposite from how you would normally pair gray with colors; but since my purpose was to MUTE the intensity, I knew I would get the most "bang for my buck" by using warm grays for the cool colors and cool grays for the warm colors. (I hope that makes sense!)
Now for the car: I was using the Papertrey Ink Melon Berry trio here, R01, Ro2, and R05. You can see that my highlight is on the top/front/right side.
Here I used the same YR markers as above, but also added just a touch of E07 in the inside corners of the fenders because I needed them to be darker. I love the curves on this car!
Next I added the grays--chrome, headlights, and shadow. I used T0, T1, T2, and T4, along with Colorless blender on the outside of the shadow to soften the edge into the paper.
Do you have any shiny surfaces to color? It takes a little practice, but you CAN do it! Thanks for stopping by today.
