Welcome! Today I have a boy-card to share, as well as some tips on tweaking marker colors to coordinate with patterned papers.
First I chose my image; I love this little dinosaur from the CHF Kim Hughes Little Guy set! When I looked at the spots on his back, I remembered my Cosmo Cricket Mini Deck Joy Ride paper with the spots. There was just one problem: would you believe that I didn't have the right Copic marker colors for my little dinosaur? Jeepers--I have them all plus a few made up in custom colors! Still--no muted blue-green that was *just right.* Time for a little marker magic.
I started with my YG41 and YG45--nice colors and blend, but too green for my patterned paper. Usually I would tweak colors by adding grays to them, but I had a feeling that a cool gray wouldn't be quite enough in this case.
Next choice: a trio of muted blues, B91, B93, and B95. See how the blues on top of the greens pull it around to the right color? This is why I LOVE Copic markers. I mixed directly on the paper--no palette blending, no ink blending in an empty marker--I just colored muted blues right over the greens to make it right.
The rest is just normal stuff--coloring his dots and adding shadows. I added a tiny bit more contrast after this picture, and I probably should have added more. . . but I didn't want to have to go back over the whole thing again to blend it smoothly. ;-)
Back to stamps for a minute: If you are looking for any CHF stamps (that's what I had used here), you might want to check this sale category; Ellen Hutson is clearing out her CHF line at 40% off of all the inventory in stock. It's a deal if you're looking for rubber. If you click on a link and it isn't there, it's probably out of stock already. I checked my links when I posted to be sure that they were working.
Thanks for stopping by!
