Cute as a Button

I had a request for a baby card recently; I'm not sure on baby's gender, so I hope it's either (a) a girl, or (b) a forgiving boy--I was in the mood to play with pink!

I used an image from Papertrey Ink's Baby Button Bits set for the focal image. The sentiment inside the card (not shown) is from Inside and Out: Baby.

These are the Copic markers that I colored the cupcake with--all PTI Copic combos.

I used several Spellbinders die templates as well: Labels Eighteen for the Focal Image, and Labels Fourteen and Twenty for the bottom borders. (For the borders I used the largest die in each set and threaded my patterned paper over the top of the blade and under the bottom of it so that only the bottom edge would cut.) Just for You

Welcome! Today I have an all-purpose card to share. I happen to use quite a few "Just for You" cards. Why? For those times when my husband offhandedly says, "So-in-so's birthday was yesterday. Do you have a card to send?" I try to keep some of these in the stash at all times!

For this card I used a couple of JustRite Stampers sets, Vintage Oval Labels and a sentiment from Fancy Labels.  Spellbinders dies that I used were Labels Eight, Classic Ovals Large, Labels Thirteen, and Foliage.

See that flower? It's a some crinkly dyed seam binding that I just stuck to a Cosmo Cricket Gluber (giant glue dot). That's about it--all details are listed below. Thanks for stopping by!

A Faithful Friend

After a two-hour delay in Greenville, S.C., and a seven-hour delay in Detroit, Benjamin and I made it home late Thursday night. It was great to go and great to be back home!

Today I have a friendship and/or encouragement card to share. I started with a sentiment from the JustRite Stampers lovely new Song in My Heart set, stamping it twice to get both a red and an aqua layer. 

After stamping the Song in My Heart image twice, I cut and embossed the layers with a Spellbinders Classic Oval die template (both small and large). Next I matted the ovals using a Lacey Ovals die template and trimmed the bottom with a Banner Basics 1 die template.

I dyed some white seam binding with R24 and R29 Copic Various inks and used Zva Creative pearls to fill in the centers of the circles on the bottom trim piece. (I used the scrap pieces from a Soft Blue and Lime flourish; I always save my extra pieces for use later.) Papers are from October Afternoon's Modern Homemaker 8" x 8" pad.

Pink Button Candy

Welcome! This is the last card that I finished before leaving for South Carolina last Thursday, so I'm about out of posts. Can you handle one more Button Boutique card? 

This one has a Sweet Blush background on which I used a Bookprint Impression Plate. Buttons are stamped first in Hibiscus Burst ink, and then in Versamark ink so that I could coat them with clear embossing powder. I added shadows with a Copic T1 marker and the threads with white string.

Button card is stamped in Dark Chocolate ink and aged with a Chamomile Distress Cube. The stamped stitching is added with Adirondack Latte ink, and the ribbon is dyed with Copic RV13 reinker (Various Inks).

Sunflowers and Buttons

Some things just go together--like Button Boutique and Friendship Jar Spring Fillers, right? I have included a list of all supplies at the end of the post.

Benjamin and I are still enjoying the relative warmth of South Carolina for a few more days. We're hoping to make it to the Greenville County Museum of Art and the Children's Museum of the Upstate this coming week. Sadly, we just missed an Andrew Wyeth exhibition at the art museum. We've been able to touch base with several family members, and that has been wonderful.

These are the Copic Markers that I used. The one with the blue dot on the end is a home made mixture, but it's pretty much the same as BG0000. I used a piece of woven cloth and my Colorless Blender solution to get the texture in the centers of the sunflowers.

With Sympathy

Today I have a sympathy card to share with you. I've needed too many of these in the past few months, it seems. I started with a Fancy Tags Cling set by JustRite Stampers, along with some coordinating dies, Nested Frame Dies.

I used the second frame down on the left, along with the sympathy sentiment. This set is a nice all-purpose set; I sometimes like being able to use one simple, framed sentiment, pairing it with some of the too-many papers from my stash!

The Copic markers that I used are shown here, along with Clear and Buttermilk Spica Glitter Pens. I used the BG32 to airbrush water around the fish while the Labels die was still in place as a mask.

Spring Buttons: PTI February 2011 Button Boutique

Vintage Doilies and Buttons: PTI February 2011 Delightful Doilies

This month started my diminished Papertrey Ink responsibilities; in making more time to travel and teach, I have had to cut back in several areas. I am so thankful that Nichole, Jane, and Julie worked out a way for me to be able to cut back and still stay with Papertrey  Ink, because I love PTI!

All of that to say that starting this month I pick FOUR sets to work with for each release. Yes, just four.  That means I have to choose, and choosing is tough! (You knew that already though, didn't you?) 

I chose Dawn's Delightful Doilies because it has fabulous building potential. With the coordinating dies, this is really an amazing set. Here I combined it with Button Boutique.

Look at the texture on that back doily die cut--seriously pretty!

Spring Flowers: PTI February 2011 Friendship Jar Spring Fillers

You knew I would choose a set with a color-able flower, didn't you? When I saw the tulips (or maybe these could work as crocuses too), I knew that the Friendship Jar Spring Fillers set would be on my February wish list. (Besides, I've always loved the Jar sets!)

I had so much fun coloring this image that I took a couple of stepped out shots for you. Let's pretend that the front blossom isn't colored in this shot--it occurred to me to take a picture right after I finished the first blossom! This is my green layer, though I went back and cooled down and deepened the shadows later, as you might notice by comparing this shot with the one at the bottom. That Copic BV00 was added in just a couple of shadows above to cool them. 

 

And here are the colors that I used in the blossoms, almost all of which are PTI Copic color combos. Click on the picture to get a larger, higher resolution image.

Here you can see that I colored the jar (BG11, BG13, and a touch of B41 in a couple of the shadows), as well as adding shadows on the jar for a couple of the leaves.  I can't wait to color these again--they were that much fun!

Thank You Tulips: PTI February 2011 Mat Stack 4 Collection

The fourth choice was the hardest, but finally I went with the Mat Stack 4 Collection because I like its shape and can see using it over and over. (Yes, it will work with all of the Tiny Treats sets!) This month I paired it with Friendship Jar Spring Fillers because I needed wanted to color those tulips one more time. This time I cut a mask so that I could cover the stamped Mat Stack 4 image and stamp the tulips inside the circle.

Happy, Happy--Joy, Joy!

One more day until the February Papertrey Ink Anniversary release!  I'll have some new-product-projects to share late tomorrow night at release time, but for tonight I have a little felt butterfly card to share.  I used the butterfly die from the Love Lives Here set to cut Harvest Gold and Ocean Tides Wool Felt, which I then stitched up the center to form subtle antennae. The sentiment is from Blooming Button Bits, embossed with Filigree Detail White embossing powder. The scalloped borders are cut with a Large Scalloped Border, and paper is from Cosmo Cricket's new Salt Air Mini Deck--shipping soon, I hope!
