Today I have another Papertrey Ink tulip card to share with you, as well as a Copic traveling update at the end of the post. First, to see any pictures at a better resolution, click on the picture. For some reason Typepad has been defaulting to a lower-resolution image in the post--I'm guessing to make it load faster. For this card I used the tulip bouquet from the Friendship Jar: Spring Fillers set. The tag is from the Mixed Messages set, an oldie but great-ie!
I took a few pictures as I colored the tulips, hoping that they might be helpful. Please ignore the one colored blossom for this shot and focus on the greenery. I've used the Copic YG60's here, except for the G21 base. The *new YG61* should be out very soon, and I can't wait to get it! I added a bit of violet in the shadows to cool them and make them recede.
In the next picture, I wanted you to see a comparison. The blossom the the right is colored with the regular blending family, R20, R22, and just a bit of R24. The blossom on the left uses the same blending family but adds some BV02 in the shadow areas. Can you see how the shadows look cooler, less vibrant and more "shadow-y" when the violet is added? Either way works, but one way is more realistic, if that is your goal. I'm not trying to change the way you color if you are happy with it--just tossing information out there perchance some of you might like to experiment!
In the third stepped-out picture, I have basically finished the blossoms, though I went back and deepened a few colors after I took this photograph. (I was using Copic Blender Card; sometimes you notice that ink is lighter after the cardstock has time to dry thoroughly.) If you click on the picture for a larger view, you may be able to see some of the purple in the shadow areas.

This is one of my all-time favorite flower images to color!

On April 11, Colleen Schaan and I will be co-teaching a Copic Intermediate Certification in Phoenix. Jenny Black will be teaching the Standard Certification in Phoenix on April 10. Other Copic Standard Certification classes that are now open for registration include Edmonton, Alberta CANADA March 14 with Sherrie Siemens; St. Louis, MO, March 19 with Lori Craig; Charlotte, NC April 27 with Colleen Schaan; and Las Vegas on May 1 with Jennie Black. I will soon have a Standard Certification opening in the Minneapolis area for late May and will hold an Intermediate Certification there probably around the time for Scrapfest this Fall.
