Monday I shared just a peek of this card for the Spellbinders Summer Surprise, but today I can share the whole process. As you may recall, my reveal dies were from the Spellbinders Nested Butterflies Two die template set, which is already available through Crafters Home affiliated stores.

Starting with the patterned background, I used a Grand Labels Four die template to cut the gingham inset piece, then a pinking shear on the straight edge. (Papers are from the Girls Paperie Vintage Whimsy collection, but it is out of stock at the online store where I found it--sorry!)

Next I dyed a length of off white seam binding. This is a really simple thing, but I have had people ask about it a few times. Cut whatever length of seam binding you want to dye and put it into a sandwich bag. (I usually dye about a yard at a time, and I use very inexpensive sandwich bags.) Squeeze about 10 drops of Copic Various Inks into the bag and start kneading the bag. If the ink does not cover all of the ribbon, add a few more drops. If you want wrinkly ribbon, scrunch it in the bag until it is dry. (It dries more quickly if you take it out of the bag and scrunch it in your hand, but it is messy that way.)

On to the butterflies: I cut the largest and smallest butterflies in the Nested Butterflies Two set out of cream wool felt and the mid-sized butterfly out of coordinating patterned paper. Next I lined up all three butterflies, and on top of baker's twine, zig-zag stitched up the center of the butterfly. I trimmed my twine, leaving enough at the top for antenna, and sewed on assorted buttons. Later I inserted a stick pin from the top (not pictured above).
I die-cut the flourish, coating it with glue pen and then glitter. Next I stamped the sentiment, from the JustRite Stampers Faith set, and die-cut and embossed it. I then sponged the sentiment banner lightly with distress ink.

To construct the card, I tied a double bow around the card on the left side and attached the sentiment to the lower right corner. Next I attached the glittered flourish near the card center, leaving the lower tail free to float. Finally, I attached the butterfly with foam tape so that it hovered off of the card front. That's it--one butterfly card finished and mailed--remember that each day's winners get not only all five die sets and a book, but also the card that was made for that day as well!
