Get Well Rose Card

Welcome! Yes, I finally got back into my studio tonight--got to find my crafty groove again. ;-) I know that it's almost winter, definitely not rose season. But I have a friend who needs something brighter and cheerier than snow right now. I started with a Fun Stamper's Journey set called Summer Garden.

These are the Copic markers that I used on the rose image. I also airbrushed the background with my Copic Airbrush System and an R22 Copic Sketch marker. 

I used two Spellbinders die template sets, Grand Decorative Ovals One and Classic Ovals Large. I also used the Infinity M-Bossabilities folder for the card background, then sponged some white craft ink on the embossed parts.  I stamped the focal image twice and cut out the tiny blossoms and the one leaf that extended past my die cut, then carefully glued/foam taped them on top of the image.  (From the top picture you can't tell, but from the picture right above this paragraph, you can see the added pieces.) I hope her rose in December makes my friend feel better! Thanks for stopping by,

Peace, Love, Joy Wreath

Welcome! I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving Day; spending time being thankful with and for the people you love is a great way to spend a day. I had intended to get a Thanksgiving card made, but got distracted with cooking, cleaning, and re-upholstering our dining room chair seats. I have to confess that I haven't been in my studio much these past few days. We've put the Christmas tree up and decorated it, as well as cooking quite a bit. We had family over today for a HUGE Thanksgiving dinner. (Don't even ask how many leftovers are in my fridge.) Tonight we made fudge and frosted sugar cookies--two of my guys' favorites. :-} (Butter cookie recipe HERE and Frosting recipe HERE--it makes a LOT of frosting, but it keeps well.) Anyway, you can see how all of this cuts into card-making time, so how about a Christmas card tonight?

For the sentiment I used the Papertrey Ink Christmas Blessings stamp set, along with the Double Ended Banners die and the Rustic Wreath die, with both Simply Chartreuse and Limeade Ice cardstock. The patterned paper is from a My Mind's Eye Merry 6" x 6" pad. I dyed a 1/4" silk ribbon with Copic R37 Various Inks. The card base is 4-1/4" square, but that top circle extends far enough to create a standard A-2 sized card. I added a bit of stitching to dress it up without making it thicker to mail, and that's it--one more card for the stash! Thank you for visiting today,

Take What You Need

Welcome! Wow--Thanksgiving week already. . . I hope that you are more prepared than I am! ;-) This morning I have a card to share using several Papertrey Ink stamp sets: Inside and Out: Well Wishes, Background Basics: Needlepoint, and Background Basics: Twinkle. I just love that Inside and Out: Well Wishes set; I think it might need a permanent spot on my desk.

For cardstock I used Papertrey Stampers Select White, Pure Poppy, and Aqua Mist. Ink colors are Scarlet Jewel, Pure Poppy, Hawaiian Shores, and Chamomile Distress ink. I chose a length of Aqua Mist grosgrain and a Pure Poppy Button to accent my card. The focal image is stamped on a die cut using the Spiral Notebook page die, then I hand-cut the words along the bottom. That's it--a pretty simple card! Thanks for stopping by today,

White Christmas

Welcome!  Today I have a card to share to let you know about the Spellbinders Platinum Party, which you can read more about here on the Spellbinders blog. (Yes, prizes are involved--check it out and follow the directions on the Spellbinders blog!)

I decided upon a shimmery white card with a few silver accents. For the card front I used several die sets: Fancy Lattice, A-2 Matting Basics B (for the frame around the lattice piece), and the 2012 Heirloom Ornaments set. For stamp sets I used JustRite's Heritage Christmas Ornaments clear set, as well as a background, Filigree Leaves Background Cling. (I left my shimmer white cardstock in the die, while I stamped with Versamark before heat embossing with detail silver embossing powder. That kept the white outline around the outside of the leafy ornaments.) Pretty simple, right? I think it would be mailable too, since there are no really lumpy pieces on the card front.

Just a COPIC Heads Up. . .

Welcome! It's good to be home again. In My Prayers

Welcome! I had some fun playing with Papertrey Ink's Cover Plate Mighty Bloom die, combined with the Inside and Out Well Wishes stamp set and my Copic Airbrush System. First I die-cut the Mighty Bloom in three colors of PTI cardstock: Terracotta Tile, Orange Zest, and Summer Sun. I wanted my bloom to be darker near the center and gradually lighten toward the outer edges, so I kept the darkest cardstock in the center and the lightest on the outer edge. 

Since I wanted the transition to be gradual instead of in three distinct colors, I used my Copic Airbrush System and a Copic YR18 marker to airbrush the edge of the Orange Zest and Summer Sunrise pieces of cardstock. Shown above is what it looked like before I removed the negative shape that was keeping my pieces in place. 

I wasn't sure if I liked this card better with a simple line (top view), or with a cotton string (this view). What do you think? Thanks for visiting today!

Have Copics, Will Travel: Sacramento!

I have an unusual post today--no card, but plenty of coloring for sure!  If you follow Marianne Walker's blog, you probably saw this post back in April. While we were at our Copic team meeting last month, Marianne brought line art so that all of us could color this image from a photograph taken in Portland, Oregon last fall. One thing I loved about this project was that all of us started with the same outlines and the same photo reference, but we all ended up with pieces that are a little bit different in style. (I don't think that Lori Craig, Cindy Lawrence, and Colleen Schaan have posted their versions yet, but Sherrie Siemens posted hers HERE, and Marianne's is in her blog post that I've already linked to.)

I had intended to keep track of all of the Copic markers that I used on this image, but I don't have an all-inclusive list, since I didn't color this piece in once sitting. I was mostly happy with how it turned out. (Hey, if you can't tell what part I struggled with, I certainly won't enlighten you! ;-})

Besides sharing my Portland picture, I wanted to tell you that I will be in Sacramento this coming weekend, November 15-16, teaching both a Copic Standard and a Copic Intermediate Certification class. Friendship, a Million Little Things

Welcome to day five of JustRite's November release! Today's set, Sweet Heart Cling Stamps, coordinates with the Spellbinders Samantha Walker Lace Hearts die set. I've had this die set in my stash for a while, but I think this is the first time that I have used it--it's pretty for sure! I stamped the pink background layer with the Sweet Lace Background Cling stamp.

The Sweet Hearts cling stamp set has plenty of sentiments, making it useful for much more than Valentines Day.

I chose to make a friendship card with one of the sentiments. I really wanted to use more than one of the heart dies, and after experimenting with several different versions of layered hearts, it occurred to me to use one of the larger hearts to make a pocket card for inserting a smaller heart with the sentiment on it. I dotted glue on the outer tips of the bottom half of the filigree heart to form my pocket, letting the glue dry completely before inserting my sentiment heart. 

For the card base, I used a Spellbinders Grand Labels One die template, and for the lacy outer edge, a Grand Decorative Labels One die template. The finished size of my card is about 5-1/8" square. You've Got Style: Fashion Vintage Labels Six

Welcome to day three of JustRite's November Release! Today's set is Fashion Vintage Labels Six Cling stamps, shown below. For the background I used last month's Lavish Corners Background Cling Stamp.

I loved that little purse image and almost used it as my focal image; but since several of the other girls had already used that image, I thought I would use the oval portrait. It reminded me of a cameo ring that I had as a little girl. Did any of you have a cameo ring? It was my first real ring, and I was so sad when my ring finger and then my pinkie outgrew it!

I kept my card monochromatic, using PTI's Sweet Blush cardstock and ink. I used JustRite's Vintage Labels Six dies for the frame and its cutout, airbrushing Copic R32 in the negative shapes on the die before removing it from my cardstock. The mat layer behind the focal image is a Spellbinders Decorative Labels Twenty Eight die cut. I used Framed Tags One for the sentiment tag, and I dyed the white seam binding with Copic R30 Various Inks/Reinker.

Happy Birthday, Haberdashery Style

Welcome to day two of JustRite's November release! Today's vintage set is a guy set--Haberdashery Vintage Labels Two Clear Stamps, shown below. 

I picked the polka-dotted bow tie to use as my focal image--loved it!

These are the Copic markers that I used to color the bow ties. I used the BG93 to lightly airbrush a background as well, leaving my Spellbinders 5 x 7 Matting Basics B die template in place to act as a stencil after cutting and embossing with it first. 

Patterned paper are from the Authentique Renew 6 x 6 Bundle. I used Memento inks, Tuxedo Black for the images and Olive Grove for the sentiment. Clean, pretty simple, and most of all, MAN-LY! ;-)
