Masculine Birthday Card: Just Typed

Welcome! Today I have a masculine birthday card to share--we can't forget about those guys, can we? Featured JustRite stamp sets, Just Typed and Typewriter Sentiments clear stamp sets, are both shown below.

 

While I love the antique typewriter image in the JustRite stamp set below, I also had a Typewriter die in my stash that I thought I would use with the Just Typed and Typewriter Sentiments clear stamp sets.

For the inside of the card I used the Typewriter Sentiments clear stamps, along with a Spellbinders A-2 Bracket Borders One die template. (I used the negative shape of the piece that I had cut for the card front.)

For the card front, in addition to the Typewriter die/Typewriter die cut, I used a Spellbinders A-2 Matting Basics A die template die cut for the piece of "paper" in the typewriter. Patterned papers are from the Carta Bella Well Traveled 6x 6 paper pad. How about some more Just Typed and Typewriter Sentiments projects? You'll find plenty of inspiration in the blogs below! Watercolor Birthday Memories

Welcome! Today I have a lovely floral stamp set to share with you, though you certainly wouldn't guess it from my card, would you? I'm usually all about coloring the flowers, but I've been having fun with those random backgrounds this past week, and I surprised myself when I finished this card and then realized that it didn't have a flower on it! You can see those flowers below, by the way, where the JustRite Birthday Floral Vintage Labels Eight and Nine Clear Stamps is shown.

Aren't these pretty? Yes, I am going to be coloring one of them soon, I'm sure. . .

To get my watercolor rectangle, I used Laura Bassen's acrylic block technique. The ink colors that I tapped on my acrylic block before spritzing it with water and stamping my cardstock were Salty Ocean, Peacock Feather, and Mowed Lawn Ranger Distress Inks. After my ink dried, I used two Spellbinders die sets to get clean, simple embossed edges: A-2 Matting Basics A and A-2 Matting Basics B.  Finally, I used Detail White Embossing Powder along with Versamark ink to heat emboss the sentiment from Birthday Floral Vintage Labels Eight and Nine Clear Stamps. Finally, I couldn't leave without posting a Copic-related card, right? 

I saw a stunning card by one of my clean and simple stamping heroes, Laura Bassen, a couple of days ago, in which she used her acrylic stamp block with watercolors to create a great background. How creative is that? Laura is amazing! I filed it away in "things to try" when I had time. Tonight I tried it with watercolors first and didn't impress myself with my attempts. I liked them while they were wet, but they dried a little pale and lifeless. I'll have to keep experimenting. . .

It occurred to me that if I used alcohol inks (Copic re-inkers) on glossy cardstock, I *might* get some vibrant color. . .  Here is my acrylic block streaked with Copic Various Inks (YG05, BG05, and B24).

Next, I spritzed the inky block with enough colorless blender to make it juicy enough to spread, and then I stamped it onto the glossy cardstock as shown above. Oh, yes, it worked! So a huge thanks to Laura Bassen for her fun technique, as applied to Copic reinkers.

Here are some of the glossy cardstock and Copic Various Inks (reinkers) pieces that "happened" tonight. 

And here is a simple, finished card. Believe it or not, the hardest part was getting the sentiment stamped the way I wanted it. . . The stamps used on my card are from Papertrey Ink's Wet Paint III set. I used detail white embossing powder for the "friends," and Staz-On Black ink for the smaller sentiment below it. White Staz-On would probably have worked well too, but mine was a little too dried up.
