Welcome! It's Power Poppy's digistamp release day today, and I have a card to share using the Ranunculus digital stamp set. Perhaps you are more flower savvy than I am, but I didn't know the name of these lovely flowers until this week. Now that I've Googled them and oohed and ahhhhed over how beautiful they are, I won't forget that name!
Since these are digital images, both the ranunculus image and the sentiment (Sending Peace) are ready to download, print, color and create with immediately!
I colored the Ranunculus image a bit differently than I usually do, starting with a light base layer with my Copic markers, shown above. This was really quick--maybe a ten-minute process since i did very little shading and blending. (I later added sky with my Copic BG0000 and B00 markers.) Next I pulled out my colored pencils. If I had printed the Ranunculus image larger, I probably would have colored them with only my markers, but since I [printed it fairly small and had all of those tiny petal areas to shade, I thought that a sharp colored pencil might save me some time. (Not sure that it did!)
By this picture, I had decided on a different die to frame the image (Spellbinders Labels Twenty-Eight), and I had colored most of the detail work in my ranunculus with colored pencils. The top left one is not colored yet, so you can see the before and after. (As always, click if you want to see a larger image.) Now I have to confess that I learned a few things today. . .
(You can skip this part--in short, it was a Murphy's Law day!) I had intended to print my image in a warm gray tone, going for that light-lined look. But my yellow ink cartridge was bone dry. And all of that extra printer ink that I was positive I had? It fit my printer that died a couple of months ago, but not the new one. Sheesh. So my warm gray lines printed out in light purple, but I thought I could make it work anyway. (I'm not sure if that was confidence or insanity, to tell the truth.)
I had printed the image on my go-to cardstock for Copic markers, X-Press It. But had I been thinking, I probably should have chosen a paper with more tooth/texture to give the colored pencils a better surface to stick to. (Oh, yes--it was one of THOSE days.) I plowed on through it because I didn't want to waste what I had already spent quite a while coloring. But a wiser person would have probably started over. There now--don't you feel better already about your day? :-}
I was happy with it in the end--it just took a while to get there. . . Besides the Spellbinders Labels Twenty-Eight die template that I cut and embossed the focal image with, I also used a 5 x 7 Matting Basics B die set (pink card front) and the Decorative Labels Twenty-Eight die set (decorative matting around the image). I loved that Labels Twenty-Eight shape with these flowers!
