Welcome! Today's My Favorite Things Stamps Sensational Stitched Flowers Kit post is an "out of the box" project, or one that uses elements from the monthly kit along with other MFT stamp sets and dies too. I had cut a whole stack of white flowers from watercolor paper (for tomorrow's post), and I kept thinking that this pile of flowers reminded me of waterlilies floating lazily near the shore of a lake. . . Hmmmm--there was my out-of-the-box idea!
First I needed a lake. I started with a quarter sheet of MFT's Blu Raspberry cardstock and simply airbrushed some random streaks on it, like ripples on a lake when the wind is blowing gently. Here is what my background looked like after I airbrushed it with BG78 and BG15.This was perhaps a five-minute job: I didn't need perfection--just something that resembled water after the lily pads and waterlilies were sitting on it.
To make the inside of the waterlily, I used the Mini Fringe Die-namics, trimmed down on both the top and the bottom as shown above to about 3/8" height , then rolled tightly and glued. For my larger centers, I used about a 2-1/2" length. For my smaller center, I used about a 2" length.
For the lily pads, I simply used my Inside & Out Stitched Circle STAX to cut two medium-sized circles and one smaller circle, and then hand trimmed them a bit to make them look more like lily pads. Of course I needed water droplets as well, so I added those with Glossy Accents. Here you can see the layers a bit better. Obviously this card wouldn't fit into a standard envelope. I'd have to construct a box or hand-deliver it. But, it was still fun to make, and it uses mostly parts from the Sensational Stitched Flowers Kit!
I hope you get a chance to see what the other girls have done with their out-of-the-box version of this month's card kit--I know that you'll get some great ideas! The Sensational Stitched Flowers Kit will be available at 10pm Eastern time on Tuesday, August 23. At that time, the link for the kit at the bottom of my post should work.
Thank you for stopping by today!
